The International Day of the Girl Child is celebrated annually on 11th October. The main aims of the day are to promote girl’s empowerment and fulfillment of their human rights while also highlighting the challenges that girls all over the world face.
Every year, 12 million girls are married before their 18th birthday. Globally, 1 in 5 girls becomes a mother before that age.
Nearly 7,000 adolescent girls aged 15 to 24 are infected with HIV every week.
98 million girls who should be in secondary school are not.
We empower adolescent girls at risk of child marriage or those already married by providing them with information and life skills to develop support networks and remain in school.
We also educate parents to make good decisions for their children.
Oasis for the Vulnerable GROUP is planning to commemorate the day with a series of activities including talk with adolescents; ladies aged 35-40, elderly women as well as distribution of sanitary towels 500 vulnerable girls in Baringo County.
